Where your image belongs

A grid supports a film. Holes in that film are places to look more closely. Follow the same places you explore in the game.

The teaching grid has 12 squares and 9 holes per square. Sizes and separations are illustrative; no physical scale or ice thickness is shown. The still image shows grid appearance.

ABOUT THIS SIMULATION

A place to practise looking.

Cryo-EM screening moves from a whole-grid overview to squares, holes and closer images within those holes. Researchers consider both ice and particles when choosing places to investigate.

These grids and particle shapes are invented. Brightness, background texture and crowding are exaggerated to make comparisons easier. They are not real micrographs, measured ice thicknesses or predicted instrument images. The overview is schematic; particle shapes are deliberately unresolved until you look closer.

“Promising” means a match to this game’s simple mission: several distinct particles spread across a quiet field. Real suitability also depends on the specimen and other measurements. Three chosen pictures do not validate a grid or produce a structure.

There is no timer, beam-dose model, score penalty or account. Descriptions provide an optional text alternative. Your notebook is kept in this browser tab through refreshes and back navigation. Closing the tab or clearing browser storage may remove it. A new grid clears it; a shared link in a new tab starts the same grid with a fresh notebook. This is a discovery game, not an operating procedure or skills assessment.
